The Government of Bermuda has identified a significant cyberattack affecting all its IT systems, linking it to hackers believed to originate from Russia. The attack has led to widespread service interruptions, impacting internet, email, and phone services across all government departments.
Premier David Burt announced during a press conference that the investigation into the incident is ongoing, with no evidence of data theft found thus far. It is suspected that similar cyberattacks may have affected other Caribbean jurisdictions.
Efforts are underway to restore services, but additional disruptions are expected throughout the day due to network interruption issues. The Department of Information and Digital Technology (IDT) is actively working on restoring services and access to impacted systems.
Despite the challenges, the government has initiated processes to facilitate payroll and vendor payments, though payment delays are anticipated.
A collaborative effort between Government House and the government is in progress to address the situation. The government plans to hold a press briefing to share further details regarding the ongoing investigation’s findings.
