Bennet, an Italian retail giant based in Como, experienced a cyber attack that led to the temporary suspension of select online services. Following the attack, Bennet took immediate action to restore normal IT operations, engaging with key international partners and informing relevant authorities. Despite the incident, customer data seems unaffected, as ongoing analysis and recovery efforts indicate no compromise to data confidentiality. While Bennet’s physical stores continued regular operations, including cash payments and electronic card usage without issues, certain ancillary services and the e-commerce segment were temporarily paused as a precautionary measure.
Reports suggest that Bennet fell victim to a hacker attack starting from the evening of June 2nd, with ransom demands made by the perpetrators. Bennet, a significant presence in Northern Italy with 65 hypermarkets and superstores, over 58 active Bennet drive collection points, and more than 6,000 employees, faced the challenge head-on. The company’s commitment to intensifying already high security standards showcases its dedication to safeguarding customer data amid the evolving threat landscape.
