Dreamwall installations in Marcinelle, Belgium, became inaccessible following a cyberattack by Akira ransomware. This incident prompted RTBF weather presenter Caroline Dossogne to relocate from Dreamwall to the Perex Centre in Daussoulx, disrupting the usual broadcast conditions for weather reports.
As a consequence of the cyberattack, RTBF and local media outlets faced challenges in providing accurate and timely weather updates to viewers. The inability to access Dreamwall’s virtual studios in Marcinelle impacted the production of weather reports, leading to disruptions in broadcasting schedules.
Furthermore, the cyberattack had widespread repercussions beyond RTBF, affecting other local media channels such as Télésambre in Charleroi. Some channels, including TV5MONDE, resorted to airing shortened programs without offering explanations to viewers, indicating the severity of the disruptions caused by the cyberattack across various media platforms.
