Bay Ridge Automotive Reports Data Breach

Bay Ridge Automotive Management Group, based in North Bergen, New Jersey, recently reported a data breach to the Attorney General of Vermont. The company disclosed that an unauthorized party accessed sensitive consumer information stored within its network. Suspicious activity was initially detected on February 2, 2024, prompting the company to secure its systems and launch an investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts. The investigation confirmed that confidential data had been accessed and potentially acquired by the unauthorized party.

Following the breach, Bay Ridge Automotive reviewed the compromised files to determine the specific information exposed and identify the affected individuals. This process was completed on August 29, 2024. Although the breach notice does not detail the exact types of information leaked, personalized data breach notification letters sent to affected individuals provide specific details about the compromised data. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure that victims are informed and supported in addressing potential risks.

On September 26, 2024, Bay Ridge Automotive began sending personalized notification letters to those impacted by the breach. These letters included information about what data was compromised and guidance on steps individuals could take to protect themselves. The company has acknowledged the seriousness of the incident and taken measures to assist those affected. Efforts to strengthen security protocols are also underway to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Bay Ridge Automotive Management Group operates a network of dealerships, including Cadillac of Manhattan, Lexus of Brooklyn, and Westchester Toyota. Employing over 64 individuals, the company generates approximately $6 million in annual revenue. The breach has posed significant challenges for the automotive retailer, but its proactive response reflects a commitment to addressing the issue and safeguarding consumer trust. The investigation into the breach continues as more details are expected to emerge.
