Bascan high school in Rambouillet, part of a series of educational establishments impacted by a cyberattack and terror threat linked to the Islamic State, faced a distressing situation on March 20, 2024. A threatening message, including an alarming video, was received by students, prompting significant security measures. The Ile-de-France rectorate confirmed that multiple high schools, including eight in Yvelines, were affected by the cyberattack and terror threat via the digital work space (ENT). The threatening document, calling for violence and attributed to the Islamic State, reportedly circulated through the digital workspace, leading to the deployment of security brigades and heightened security measures at the targeted educational establishments.
Concern and astonishment prevailed at the Bascan high school, and classes continued with the option for students not to attend. Additionally, measures, including the establishment of a psychological unit and deployment of unmarked vehicles with security personnel, were taken in response to the distressing threat. The severity of the situation prompted the president of the Île-de-France Region to involve law enforcement and regional security brigades to mitigate doubts and secure the sites. The impact of such a cyber terror threat on educational institutions is undeniably significant, requiring immediate and comprehensive response measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students, staff, and the educational community.
