ASP Reports Breach Impacting Sensitive Info

In October and November 2023, Advanced Sterilization Products (ASP) detected unusual activity within its network environment, stemming from two separate cybersecurity incidents involving unauthorized third parties. Upon discovering the breach, ASP launched a thorough investigation to understand the scope of the intrusion. By September 3, 2024, ASP determined that between January 25, 2023, and November 6, 2023, sensitive personal and health information may have been accessed and acquired by unauthorized individuals. The investigation concluded that specific types of personal data were potentially exposed, including Social Security numbers, financial information, and health insurance details.

Following the investigation, ASP identified the individuals affected by the breach and initiated the process of notifying them. On October 3, 2024, the company began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. In the notices, ASP outlined the specific types of sensitive information that were exposed and offered 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services to help mitigate potential risks related to identity theft. The company also provided additional resources to help individuals safeguard their information, such as guidance on placing fraud alerts and security freezes.

ASP, a leading manufacturer of infection prevention solutions, has been a key player in medical sterilization and disinfection technologies since its founding in 1987. The company, headquartered in Irvine, California, specializes in products and workflows for healthcare settings, particularly in medical sterilization. ASP’s global reach extends across 42 countries, and its team of over 1,700 employees serves a wide range of healthcare providers. The company’s commitment to innovation and customer safety has made it a trusted name in the medical equipment industry.

Following its acquisition by Fortive Corporation in 2019, ASP continued to expand its portfolio of advanced solutions for infection prevention. The company’s management has emphasized its dedication to addressing the security breach with transparency and urgency. ASP has worked with cybersecurity experts to ensure that its systems are secure and that additional safeguards are implemented to prevent future incidents. The company remains focused on maintaining the trust of its customers and stakeholders by strengthening its data protection measures.
