On June 18, 2024, Arsement Redd Gardner Benoit LLC (formerly Arsement, Redd & Morella, LLC) informed clients of a data security incident involving their tax information. The breach, which occurred between March 14, 2024, and April 22, 2024, was linked to unauthorized access through Intuit’s Lacerte Tax Program, a third-party software used by ARGB. Although ARGB’s own systems were not compromised, the incident exposed sensitive information including names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and tax details.
Following the discovery of the breach, ARGB engaged third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate the scope of the unauthorized access. The investigation confirmed that the breach involved personal information stored in the tax software. As a precautionary measure, ARGB began notifying clients whose information was potentially affected by the breach.
In response to the incident, ARGB is taking several steps to enhance its data security protocols. The company is reviewing its policies and procedures, evaluating its relationship with Intuit’s Lacerte Tax Program, and implementing additional security measures to protect client information. ARGB has also notified federal law enforcement and is cooperating with the IRS and state tax authorities.
To assist affected individuals, ARGB is offering 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through Experian. Clients are encouraged to enroll in these services themselves and to remain vigilant against identity theft and fraud by monitoring their credit reports and account statements. Instructions for activating the credit monitoring and applying for an Identity Protection PIN through the IRS are included in the notification letters sent to clients.
