Amper, a Spanish engineering and technology firm specializing in defense, security, energy, and telecommunications sectors, recently experienced a significant cyberattack. According to cybersecurity firm HackManac and confirmed by company sources to Europa Press, cybercriminals seized approximately 650 gigabytes of data. This data encompassed project details, user information, and sensitive employee data such as payroll and financial information.
While Amper has not disclosed the full extent of the breach, sources suggest that the attack was orchestrated by a sophisticated cybercrime group known as Black Basta. This group operates under a ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) model and has gained notoriety for its global cyber threat activities, as highlighted by Spain’s National Cybersecurity Institute (Incibe).
This incident underscores a growing trend of cyber threats faced by major corporations, paralleling similar attacks on prominent entities like Telefónica, Santander, and Iberdrola. Such breaches highlight vulnerabilities in cybersecurity across industries, prompting heightened awareness and proactive measures to safeguard sensitive data and systems.
