Alleged Cyberattack on NY Bravest FCU

NY Bravest FCU is reportedly the victim of a cyberattack orchestrated by the LockBit ransomware group, according to a dark web message with a looming deadline of November 30, 2023. The threat actor ominously declares that all available data will be published, specifically linking the attack to the Albany branch.

Despite the severity of the situation, NY Bravest FCU has not issued an official statement or response at the time of writing, leaving the claims surrounding the cyberattack unverified.

In response to the potential threat, NY Bravest FCU promptly updated its website, cautioning members about fraudulent activities affecting financial institutions. The credit union warned against responding to deceptive text messages and phone calls impersonating banks, emphasizing that they never solicit personal or account information through such means.

NY Bravest FCU reassured its members that they would never send text messages with clickable links, urging recipients to verify the authenticity of communications by directly contacting the credit union.

The LockBit ransomware group’s dark web announcement adds an element of urgency to the situation, creating uncertainty around the potential release of compromised data. The proactive communication from NY Bravest FCU with its members highlights the challenges financial institutions face in navigating and mitigating cybersecurity threats, especially in the context of ransomware attacks that can compromise sensitive customer information.
