The All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), New Delhi successfully defended against a malware attack on its eHospital services. The institution’s website, ehospital.aiims.edu, was targeted, displaying a message indicating the presence of a virus.
AIIMS promptly responded, assuring the public that its systems were working normally and that the cyber threat was neutralized.
Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar refuted claims of a cyber attack or breach, stating that the error messages seen may have resulted from unauthorized access attempts to an internal application.
He clarified that the situation was resolved, and there was no evidence of a cyber incident. The government emphasized that the e-Hospital services remained fully secure and operational.
This incident follows a significant ransomware attack on AIIMS in November, which disrupted the institution’s systems and led to manual operations for a period of time.
The attack, believed to have originated in China, targeted 5 out of 100 servers, compromising sensitive data, including details of politicians and celebrities. Fortunately, the damage was contained, and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare confirmed that the compromised data had been successfully retrieved.
