The advent of ChatGPT has triggered an alarming surge in vishing, smishing, and phishing attacks, escalating by a staggering 1,265%, according to Enea. A significant revelation from their study is that 76% of enterprises lack adequate protection against voice and messaging fraud, resulting in substantial losses. Mobile fraud, particularly in the forms of smishing and vishing, continues to plague 61% of enterprises, with costly consequences. The study highlights a critical gap between enterprise expectations and the capabilities of Communication Service Providers (CSPs), where 85% of enterprises deem security crucial in their telecom buying decisions.
Enterprises, major stakeholders in CSPs, are dependent on these providers for protection from telecom-related fraud. Surprisingly, despite the surge in attacks, more than three-quarters of enterprises do not invest in SMS spam or voice scam/fraud protection. This highlights a pressing need for enhanced network security measures. The survey underscores the challenge CSPs face in maintaining and enhancing mobile network security, emphasizing the need for skilled staff, budget allocation for security tools, and organizational prioritization of security.
