Adstra LLC, Princeton Suffers Data Breach

In June 2023, Adstra, a data management firm headquartered in Princeton, Maine, detected suspicious activity on its computer systems. This prompted the company to launch an immediate investigation with the help of third-party forensic specialists. The investigation revealed unauthorized access to files on Adstra’s human resources drives between May 25 and June 5, 2023. By June 14, 2024, Adstra confirmed that the compromised data included sensitive personal information of a Maine resident, such as names and Social Security numbers.

Adstra took swift action following the discovery of the breach. The company notified the affected individual in Maine around August 7, 2024, providing written notice that detailed the incident and its implications. In addition to informing the impacted individual, Adstra reported the breach to federal law enforcement and is implementing enhanced security measures to prevent future incidents. The company is also taking steps to strengthen its internal security protocols and employee training.

As part of its response, Adstra is offering one year of free credit monitoring through IDX to the affected individual. The firm has also provided guidance on how to guard against identity theft and fraud. This includes advising on how to place fraud alerts and security freezes on credit files, monitor account statements, and obtain free credit reports. Adstra encourages individuals to report any suspicious activity to their credit card company, bank, or the Federal Trade Commission.

Additionally, Adstra is notifying relevant state regulators about the breach as required. The company’s proactive measures aim to mitigate the impact of the incident and help protect affected individuals from further risks. Adstra remains committed to safeguarding its clients’ information and is working diligently to enhance its data security practices.
