Acer Employee Data Breach Confirmed

Acer Philippines has acknowledged a security breach where employee data was compromised and subsequently leaked on a hacking forum by a threat actor named ‘ph1ns’. The data breach occurred through a third-party vendor managing the company’s employee attendance data, highlighting the risks associated with outsourcing sensitive operations. Acer assures customers that while employee data was affected, there is no evidence of a breach in the company’s systems, and customer data remains secure.

The Taiwanese computer hardware and electronics manufacturer is actively collaborating with cybersecurity experts, law enforcement, and the breached vendor to investigate the incident further. They have promptly notified the National Privacy Commission (NPC) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) in the Philippines, initiating a comprehensive investigation into the breach. Acer emphasizes its commitment to addressing the breach and safeguarding the privacy of affected individuals, indicating a proactive approach to mitigating potential risks.

Despite the breach, Acer has reassured the public regarding the security of customer data and confirmed that its systems remain uncompromised. The company’s swift response and transparency in communicating with relevant authorities and the public reflect a dedication to cybersecurity and customer trust. As the investigation progresses, Acer remains focused on implementing necessary measures to enhance security protocols and prevent similar incidents in the future, underscoring the importance of robust cybersecurity measures in safeguarding sensitive information against evolving threats.
