Accruent Reports Data Breach Exposing Data

Accruent, a software development company based in Austin, Texas, recently reported a data breach to the Attorney General of Maine. The breach, which affected sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information, was first detected in October and November 2023. Unusual activity within its network indicated two separate cybersecurity incidents involving unauthorized third parties. After becoming aware of the issue, Accruent immediately launched an investigation to assess the scale and nature of the breach, which revealed that the unauthorized access occurred between January 25, 2023, and November 6, 2023.

Upon further investigation, Accruent determined that a variety of sensitive personal information had been exposed, including names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, driver’s license and state-issued identification numbers, passport numbers, birth certificate numbers, financial details like account numbers, credit and debit card information, and health insurance details. Following the investigation, the company conducted a review to assess the extent of the data breach and identify the specific individuals affected. This review concluded on September 3, 2024, with Accruent notifying those impacted by the breach.

As a response to the breach, Accruent began sending data breach notification letters to the affected individuals on October 3, 2024. In addition to detailing the specific types of exposed data, the company is offering 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services to the affected parties. The notification also includes advice on how individuals can protect themselves from identity theft, such as monitoring financial statements and placing fraud alerts or security freezes on their credit files. These measures are intended to help mitigate the impact of the breach and safeguard personal information going forward.

Accruent was founded in 1995 and has grown to serve over 10,000 customers in more than 150 countries. The company specializes in providing software solutions to optimize the management of real estate, facilities, and assets. With major offices in the United States, Brazil, and Australia, Accruent employs over 1,000 people. In 2018, Accruent was acquired by Fortive, a global technology company, and continues to operate with a strong focus on protecting customer data and improving security measures across its network environment.
