UK’s Edwardian Hotels Cyberattack Disclosed

The United Kingdom’s Edwardian Hotels London is the latest victim of a ransomware attack carried out by the BlackBasta group. The group posted details about the attack on the dark web, including data samples like bank accounts and passport information as evidence.

Several cybersecurity researchers have reported this cyberattack and found screenshots from BlackBasta. However, neither Edwardian Hotels’ Twitter page nor its website have made any public reference to the ransomware attack or data security incident.

The ransom amount and the size of the data files exfiltrated from this cyberattack remain undisclosed. Additionally, the May Fair, Radisson Blu Edwardian, and the Edwardian Manchester, among other entities owned by Edwardian Hotels, have also been targeted. This attack extends to Stanton Williams, a renowned design studio, and Häffner GmbH & Co. KG, a German company specializing in chemical distribution.

While hackers target premium resorts and hotels in search of significant ransoms, it’s notable that MGM Resorts, a prior target, refused to meet the ransom demands of cybercriminals.

Several educational institutions and healthcare organizations have previously been in the news due to data breaches caused by the MOVEit exploitation. These entities’ refusal to meet ransom demands sets a noteworthy example and forces cybercriminals to release exfiltrated data on the dark web, showing a growing trend of organizations standing firm against ransomware threats.
