TikTok Scam Promotes Temu Store

Scammers have devised a new scheme on TikTok to promote the Temu online megastore by using fake celebrity nude photo leaks. Temu, an online shopping platform offering low-priced products, allows customers to create referral links for sharing on social media, granting them store credit, free gifts, or points for their rewards system.

Furthermore, this system enables users to earn store credit by playing mini-games, which can then be converted into cash rewards or product purchases, while simultaneously promoting Temu through referrals on social media.

However, a disturbing twist has emerged in these Temu referrals on TikTok. Scammers are now creating videos implying that sensitive photos and videos of celebrities have been leaked and urging viewers to download the Temu app and enter their referral numbers to access this content. These misleading videos have captions suggesting celebrity involvement, such as “I thought she was innocent” or “[celebrity_name] got leaked,” and often contain suggestive images or text along with prompts to install Temu and enter the provided referral number. Celebrities targeted in these scams include Olivia Rodrigo, Jenna Ortega, SSSniperWolf, Brooke Monk, Hailie Deegan, among others.

While this particular scam aims to generate store credit for scammers, it raises concerns about the potential for future malicious activities on TikTok. Fake leaks have historically been used for various scams, including malware distribution. TikTok users are advised to exercise caution and refrain from installing suspicious software when encountering videos promoting such deceptive schemes.
