In an escalating cyber conflict between Indonesian and Indian hacktivist groups, PathLegal, a prominent online legal service provider in India, has become the latest victim of a devastating data breach.
Furthermore, the alleged cyber attack, orchestrated by the group Hacktivist Indonesia as part of their “OpIndia” campaign, led to the exposure of sensitive information belonging to 127,000 legal professionals and students. As of now, the PathLegal cyber attack remains unconfirmed, and the company has not issued an official statement addressing the alleged breach.
The conflict between these hacktivist groups extends to threats against critical infrastructure. In response to ongoing attacks on Indian websites and digital infrastructure, an Indian hacktivist collective known as the “Indian Cyber Punk” has declared its intention to retaliate with cyber attacks on critical Indonesian infrastructure, under the operation name “#Oppayback_id.” Several other hacktivist groups have also expressed support for Indian hackers involved in this cyber conflict.
Furthermore, hacktivist groups from both countries have engaged in defacement attacks on websites of organizations in their respective countries.
