The incident, which occurred between June 11 and June 19, 2023, was identified as a ransomware attack that impacted CDHE’s network systems.
Immediate measures were taken to secure the network, and CDHE has enlisted the help of third-party experts to conduct a comprehensive investigation. While ongoing, the investigation has revealed unauthorized access to CDHE systems and the copying of certain data, including names, social security numbers, student identification numbers, and education records.
CDHE is diligently reviewing its protocols and procedures in response to the incident, actively working to enhance its cybersecurity measures to protect its systems from further threats. Impacted individuals are being offered complimentary access to credit monitoring and identity theft protection services through Experian for a duration of two years.
CDHE is unable to directly enroll individuals but is providing guidance on steps to protect personal information. In light of the breach, individuals are advised to remain vigilant against identity theft and fraud, carefully review account statements, and regularly monitor their credit reports for any unusual activity.
