Phoenician Medical Center, Inc. (PMC) recently experienced a security incident impacting its IT systems, detected on March 31, 2023.
The breach involved unauthorized access to patient files containing protected health information, potentially obtained by hackers. PMC confirmed that up to 162,500 current and former patients’ data might have been compromised, including names, contact information, medical records, and health insurance details. The organization is taking steps to enhance security protocols to prevent future incidents.
In another incident, the Philadelphia-based nonprofit health institute, Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC), detected suspicious activity on May 8, 2023. A forensic investigation confirmed that unauthorized individuals may have accessed and acquired sensitive patient information on that date. The exposed data includes personal details, Social Security numbers, medical histories, diagnosis information, and more.
PHMC is reviewing affected files and verifying contact information to notify the impacted individuals promptly. The breach has been reported to the HHS’ Office for Civil Rights, affecting a minimum of 501 individuals, with further updates expected as the scale of the breach is determined.
