A worldwide data breach involving move-it transfer software has raised concerns for Idaho’s colleges and universities, with the College of Southern Idaho among the institutions potentially affected.
The breach poses a risk to the personal information of students and employees managed by the National Student Clearinghouse (N-S-C) and Teachers Insurance Annuity Association of America (TIAA).
Since the breach involves a third-party vendor utilized by N-S-C and TIAA, students and institution employees do not need to take immediate action to secure their accounts or data.
Fortunately, systems managed by the office of the State Board of Education and Idaho’s public higher education institutions have not been compromised.
N-S-C has reached out to seven Idaho schools about the breach, including the College of Southern Idaho. Ryan Jund, the Chief Information Officer of CSI, states that they are aware of the breach and are awaiting further information from the clearinghouse to identify the specific students impacted and the types of compromised data.
Once this information is provided, CSI will work with the clearinghouse to notify affected individuals and provide services to help mitigate any potential impacts of the breach.
