A recent data security breach has affected retired workers of the State of Tennessee, leading to the unauthorized access of their personal information. The breach occurred through MOVEit Transfer, a file transfer software vendor owned by Pension Benefits Information (PBI), according to treasury officials.
More than 170,000 members of the Tennessee consolidated retirement system and their beneficiaries have been impacted by this breach. The hackers were able to collect sensitive details such as names, social security numbers, dates of birth, and mailing addresses.
Fortunately, no banking information was compromised. In response to the breach, treasury officials have announced their intention to provide affected members with credit monitoring and identity restoration services to mitigate potential harm.
