Pennsylvania State Police have reported that a hacker successfully manipulated bank information, resulting in the theft of $47,000 that was intended for Lehigh Carbon Community College.
The incident occurred on April 28 at 2:16 p.m., as stated in a news release issued by the police. The release further explains that an ongoing investigation is being conducted into this wire fraud case.
According to the police, the hacker gained unauthorized access to a vendor’s network and proceeded to alter the bank information associated with Lehigh Carbon’s deposits. The perpetrator managed to siphon off $46,745.50 from the college’s funds, leaving authorities to pursue the individual responsible for this act of theft.
