Luxury Retailer Cortina Watch Hacked

Luxury retailer Cortina Watch in Singapore has been targeted by hackers, just one week after the data of over 40,000 Goldheart customers was leaked. The hacker, known as Bassterlord, claimed to have stolen 2GB of data from Cortina Watch, including customer contact details.

Furthermore, the hacker shared a sample of the data on Twitter, threatening to expose the addresses of wealthy clients. The stolen data seems to have been obtained from the company’s website contact form, stored on compromised servers.

Bassterlord, reportedly a Ukrainian man in his 20s and head of the hacker group National Hazard Agency, specializes in ransomware and is linked to multiple ransomware gangs. Cortina Watch, founded in 1972, has expanded to over 40 stores across Asia and carries more than 50 luxury brands.

At the same time, the company’s website was temporarily taken down, and authorities such as the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) and Cyber Security Agency have offered assistance.

This incident follows a series of security breaches affecting companies in Singapore. Goldheart, a jeweler, recently discovered that its e-commerce site had been compromised, resulting in the exposure of customer names, addresses, email addresses, dates of birth, and phone numbers.

While financial data and passwords were not accessed, the company advised affected customers to remain cautious and verify the legitimacy of emails received. The PDPC has also penalized online furniture store FortyTwo for a data breach that leaked the personal information of 6,339 customers.

These incidents highlight the ongoing need for robust cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive data in Singapore.
