The Indian Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) website was targeted in a suspected cyber attack on Saturday. At around 1:30 pm, unusual activity was detected, and a message with religious overtones appeared on the homepage. The message also contained a declaration of hacking, prompting the IT department to take immediate action. Shraddha Baviskar, head of the IT department, and Municipal Commissioner Manisha Awhale were alerted, and the website was quickly taken offline.
Following the breach, the technical team began a thorough investigation, and the public relations officer, Ajay Sable, confirmed the incident.
While no data breach or system damage was confirmed, the attack raised concerns about the corporation’s cybersecurity preparedness. Authorities emphasized the importance of monitoring the situation and promised an official update. They assured citizens that further actions would be taken to prevent future incidents.
The nature of the cyber attack has sparked alarms within the corporation, but officials praised the swift response of the IT team. Municipal Commissioner Awhale stated that the IT department acted quickly to thwart the attack. She urged citizens not to panic and advised them to avoid rumors while awaiting verified updates.
