Numotion, a Tennessee-based company, recently reported a data breach affecting nearly 500,000 individuals. The company provides mobility solutions, including wheelchairs, and discovered that employee email accounts were compromised between September 2, 2024, and November 18, 2024. Upon investigation, Numotion confirmed that some of the compromised emails contained sensitive customer data such as names, dates of birth, payment details, medical information, and for a few individuals, Social Security numbers and driver’s license details. The breach was identified on January 22, 2025, and the company has since been working to resolve the situation.

Numotion emphasized that, to date, there is no evidence suggesting that the exposed personal information has been misused for fraud or identity theft.

However, the company advised affected individuals to remain vigilant by monitoring their accounts and credit reports closely. The company also encouraged users to report any suspicious activity promptly. As a precaution, Numotion offered complimentary identity theft protection services to those whose Social Security numbers were involved.

Letters were sent to those impacted with a valid mailing address.

This breach comes after a previous cyberattack in the spring of 2024, where the Black Basta ransomware group gained access to the company’s network. During that attack, sensitive information was stolen and files were encrypted. Initially, Numotion reported that only a few thousand people were affected, but later revised the number to over 600,000 individuals. This was another incident highlighting the vulnerability of the company to cyberattacks, further shaking trust in its security measures.

As of now, Numotion has been working with a dedicated call center to answer any questions from affected individuals. The company also continues to work with cybersecurity experts to ensure further protection of sensitive data. The breach affects nearly all of the company’s customers, as Numotion serves more than 400,000 people. Despite the challenges, Numotion is committed to resolving the situation and safeguarding customer information moving forward.
