Google has acquired cloud security provider Wiz for $32 billion, marking its largest-ever acquisition. The deal will integrate Wiz into Google Cloud, which also includes the security firm Mandiant. Wiz, known for securing cloud assets from code to runtime, will continue working with other cloud providers like AWS and Microsoft Azure. The acquisition aims to improve security for multicloud environments and lower maintenance costs for enterprise systems.

Wiz was founded in 2020 and quickly gained recognition for its security solutions in cloud infrastructure. Investors like Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz supported the company. The deal is expected to help Google Cloud better compete with AWS and Microsoft Azure in cloud security. Wiz’s expertise in managing security across multiple cloud environments aligns with Google Cloud’s growing focus on enterprise security.

Google’s push into cloud security is part of a broader strategy to boost its market position in cloud services. With this acquisition, Google seeks to offer comprehensive security for modern IT environments, addressing the increasing need for robust cybersecurity measures. Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, emphasized the importance of expanding multicloud cybersecurity, which will foster growth in cloud computing. Google views this as an investment in two major trends: AI-driven cloud security and multicloud adoption.

While the deal still requires regulatory approval, it is expected to close in 2026. The acquisition also includes retention bonuses to ensure Wiz’s team stays intact. Wiz’s rapid growth and strong financial performance make this acquisition a major win for Google. With Wiz on board, Google Cloud is positioning itself to be a more formidable competitor in the cloud security space.
