Orange Romania Cyberattack Exposes Data

Northern Caribbean University (NCU), located in Mandeville, Jamaica, is currently grappling with a cyberattack that has rendered its computer systems inaccessible. The attack has specifically affected the university’s Aeorion Learning Management System (LMS), SMS, and main website, which has hindered students and faculty from using these online platforms for their usual activities. As a result, the university informed its community that teaching and learning via Aeorion would not be possible, although classes will continue using Zoom for the time being.

The university issued a statement advising students and staff to monitor their emails for updates on the ongoing situation.

Faculty members are expected to guide students on how to proceed with lessons during this disruption, while administrative workers are also facing difficulties accessing the computer systems, although the email system remains functional. Despite these setbacks, the university has assured that face-to-face classes are still being held as scheduled unless otherwise communicated.

In response to the cyber-attack, NCU has reached out to its external cyber support service for assistance in restoring its systems and securing its network. The institution has also sought collaboration with relevant government agencies to help resolve the matter promptly. While the disruption has caused considerable inconvenience, the university remains committed to finding a resolution to ensure that both students and staff can resume their regular academic and administrative functions.

The university’s administration has emphasized that despite the ongoing issues with its digital platforms, workers are expected to continue their duties unless otherwise instructed by supervisors. NCU’s Information System Services (UNISS) is actively working with external and governmental partners to address the breach and restore normalcy. The university’s email system, while functional, remains an essential communication channel for further instructions and updates.
