Google and Poland have signed a memorandum aimed at boosting the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in key sectors, including energy and cybersecurity. This collaboration comes as Poland seeks to enhance its technological infrastructure and reduce its reliance on Russian energy sources. The agreement was formalized during a meeting between Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk, with discussions focusing on expanding Google’s operations in Poland, which has become the company’s largest engineering hub in the region since its establishment in 2014.

The deal will see Google invest $5 million over the next five years to fund training programs that will help improve digital skills among Polish youth. The initiative is expected to reach around 1 million young Poles, providing them with the necessary tools to navigate the growing digital landscape. This move is part of a broader strategy to support Poland’s economic development, especially in light of rising cybersecurity threats and ongoing geopolitical challenges involving Russia.

Prime Minister Tusk also noted that the partnership with Google will significantly contribute to Poland’s security. With increasing cyberattacks and other forms of sabotage attributed to Russia, strengthening the country’s technological infrastructure through AI will be a critical part of its defense strategy. This collaboration underscores Poland’s commitment to fostering technological innovation while ensuring its national security.

In addition to the AI-driven initiatives, Tusk invited Google to participate in Poland’s ongoing efforts to reduce red tape and simplify regulations to create a more business-friendly environment. This move is part of a larger economic development plan that includes attracting significant investments from major tech companies like Google and Microsoft. These efforts are expected to culminate in an estimated $160 billion investment in Poland by 2025, further solidifying the country’s position as a key player in Europe’s tech landscape.
