Weinberg, Wheeler, Hudgins, Gunn & Dial, a law firm based in Georgia, recently informed the Attorney General of Maine about a data breach that may have compromised sensitive personal identifiable information (PII) in its systems. The breach notice detailed that the firm became aware of unauthorized access to its computer network, which raised concerns about the security of the data held within. This prompted WWHGD to initiate an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident. The firm discovered that the breach occurred on September 11, 2023, when an unauthorized actor potentially accessed and viewed sensitive personal information.

In response to the breach, WWHGD conducted a thorough review of its data systems to assess what information had been impacted and to identify the individuals affected. The types of potentially exposed information included names and Social Security numbers, which are critical components of an individual’s identity and can be exploited for identity theft. As part of its commitment to transparency, the law firm began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals on August 29, 2024. These notifications included a detailed account of the specific types of sensitive information that may have been compromised.

To assist the affected individuals in protecting their personal information, WWHGD is providing complimentary credit monitoring services for twelve months. This initiative aims to help those impacted by the breach monitor their credit activity and mitigate potential risks associated with identity theft. The firm has also taken steps to ensure that those affected are informed about the actions they can take to safeguard their information, reflecting its dedication to customer service and risk management.

Founded in 1999, WWHGD specializes in various legal practice areas, including construction, healthcare, and personal injury law. The firm represents clients in significant legal disputes and catastrophic litigation, showcasing its expertise across various industries, including transportation, healthcare, and manufacturing. With a workforce of over 200 employees and multiple locations throughout the United States, WWHGD remains committed to addressing the breach’s aftermath while continuing to provide effective legal services to its clients.
