Sophos Completes $859M SecureWorks Deal
Sophos announced the completion of its $859 million all-cash acquisition of SecureWorks on Monday. The deal, first revealed in October 2024, aims to enhance Sophos’ cybersecurity portfolio by integrating new products such as identity detection and response (ITDR) tools, next-gen SIEM capabilities, operational technology (OT) security, and improved vulnerability risk prioritization. By combining SecureWorks’ Taegis XDR platform with its own Managed Detection and Response (MDR) services, Sophos seeks to strengthen its offerings across small, mid-sized, and enterprise markets.
The two companies are currently continuing their operations as usual, collaborating with their channel partners, managed service providers (MSPs), and managed security service providers (MSSPs). Sophos emphasized that its threat intelligence and security services are expanding with the addition of SecureWorks’ Counter Threat Unit™ and other specialized security operations and advisory teams. This expansion strengthens Sophos’ X-Ops capabilities, bolstering its ability to combat evolving threats in the cybersecurity landscape.

Following the completion of the acquisition, Sophos now serves over 28,000 MDR service customers and protects more than 600,000 organizations through a combination of MDR, endpoint, network, email, and cloud security solutions.

This positions Sophos as a stronger player in the cybersecurity space, with a broader range of tools and services designed to safeguard against a variety of cyber risks. The acquisition is seen as a strategic move to enhance Sophos’ ability to deliver comprehensive cybersecurity protections across its growing customer base.
SecureWorks, headquartered in Atlanta, recently made workforce reductions and cost optimization measures, including a 15% staff cut and real estate-related adjustments. As part of the acquisition, SecureWorks’ common stock has been delisted from Nasdaq. This move marks the end of SecureWorks as an independent public company and its full integration into Sophos’ global cybersecurity operations.
