Orchid Security Raises $36 Million to Tackle Identity Management with AI

Orchid Security, a New York-based startup specializing in identity-first security orchestration, has secured $36 million in a seed round co-led by Team8 and Intel Capital. The company’s innovative approach focuses on utilizing large language models (LLMs) to simplify the management of fragmented identity systems within large enterprises. These organizations typically struggle with a complex ecosystem of over 1,200 applications that are hosted on-premise, in the cloud, or delivered as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). Orchid’s platform aims to address this issue by automating the discovery of applications, evaluating their authentication and authorization flows, and pinpointing potential vulnerabilities.

The core of Orchid Security’s technology lies in its ability to use artificial intelligence to assess identity flows

The core of Orchid Security’s technology lies in its ability to use artificial intelligence to assess identity flows within applications without requiring manual code access or input from application owners. This eliminates the need for traditional approaches that involve lengthy professional services and slow onboarding processes. By applying LLMs, Orchid’s platform can evaluate authentication systems and make necessary improvements more efficiently, which is expected to reduce costs for enterprises and speed up the integration process. This AI-powered solution is designed to simplify the management of identity and access across a variety of enterprise applications.

LLMs are central to Orchid’s technology, as they provide the necessary reasoning and contextual understanding to assess identity flows in running applications. These advanced models can recognize code and understand how identity systems function within applications, enabling Orchid to identify inconsistencies and suggest remediation without requiring access to or changes in the application’s code. This innovative use of AI provides significant improvements over traditional IAM systems, where such evaluations would typically involve significant human intervention and time-consuming analysis.

Orchid Security is already working with high-profile clients, including Fortune 500 companies like Costco and Repsol, to enhance their identity security management. The company’s platform is positioned as a key tool for organizations struggling with complex and fragmented IAM systems. Orchid Security was founded by the same team behind enSilo, a cybersecurity company acquired by Fortinet in 2019. With its advanced AI-driven solution and growing client base, Orchid Security is poised to reshape the identity security landscape for large enterprises.
