Montagut and Sobral Faces Data Breach

Montagut & Sobral, a law firm based in Falls Church, Virginia, recently reported a data breach to the Attorney General of New Hampshire. The breach, discovered on June 24, 2024, involved suspicious activity within the firm’s IT systems. In response, Montagut & Sobral immediately initiated an investigation to determine the extent of the incident and identify the specific data that had been compromised. The firm’s internal review revealed that unauthorized access to sensitive personal identifiable information had occurred.

The data breach potentially exposed a range of sensitive information, including individuals’ names, Social Security numbers, and driver’s license numbers. The breach appears to have affected multiple individuals, but the firm has not specified the full scope of the exposure. Montagut & Sobral took swift action to investigate the breach, working to understand the nature of the unauthorized access and to assess the risk of further exposure. Although the investigation continues, the firm has been transparent in its efforts to inform those impacted by the incident.

On September 19, 2024, Montagut & Sobral began notifying the affected individuals through data breach notification letters. These letters outlined the specific types of personal information that may have been exposed in the breach. In addition to these notifications, the firm is offering complimentary credit monitoring services to impacted individuals. The firm’s response highlights its commitment to addressing the breach and assisting those affected by the incident.

Montagut & Sobral is a law firm that specializes in immigration law and offers a range of legal services including assistance with permanent residency, citizenship, and non-immigrant visas. Headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia, the firm has over 20 employees and provides legal services in areas such as power of attorney, divorce, and adoption.
