Oklahoma Bar Association Reports Cyberattack

The Oklahoma Bar Association (OBA) disclosed a data security incident involving unauthorized access to personal information stored on its network. The breach was detected on April 22, 2024, when suspicious activity caused a network interruption during an attempted cyberattack. In response, OBA enlisted cybersecurity professionals to secure its systems and investigate the incident. By June 21, 2024, the investigation confirmed that certain files containing personal information had been accessed by an unauthorized actor.

The affected data included Social Security numbers, as revealed during a detailed review of the accessed files. Although no evidence of misuse for identity theft or fraud has been found, OBA notified affected individuals as a precaution. The organization emphasized its commitment to transparency and data protection by informing individuals of the breach and providing resources to mitigate potential risks. This notification reflects OBA’s dedication to safeguarding its members’ sensitive information.

OBA has implemented measures to strengthen its cybersecurity in the wake of the breach. These include deploying additional monitoring tools and enhancing its system security to prevent future incidents. The association also partnered with Cyberscout, a TransUnion company specializing in fraud protection, to offer complimentary identity theft protection and credit monitoring services to affected individuals for 12 months. OBA encouraged individuals to enroll in these services and take steps to protect their information.

Affected individuals have been advised to remain vigilant by monitoring their credit reports and account statements for any suspicious activity. OBA also recommended placing fraud alerts on credit files and following steps outlined in its additional information resources. For further assistance, representatives are available to address concerns and help with enrollment in the protection services. The association reiterated that there is no evidence of misuse but remains committed to supporting individuals impacted by the incident.
