MIPS Investigates Data Exposure Incident

MIPS Holding Inc., headquartered in San Jose, California, recently announced a potential data exposure incident involving sensitive personal information. The company has not found evidence of misuse related to the event but has taken steps to address potential risks. MIPS is notifying affected individuals and offering identity monitoring services to help protect against identity theft or fraud. The company emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the privacy and security of information in its care.

The incident prompted MIPS to provide access to complimentary identity monitoring services through IDX, a ZeroFox company, for 24 months. Affected individuals can enroll in these services using a provided enrollment code by December 18, 2024. The identity monitoring package includes credit monitoring, which must be activated for full protection. MIPS is also making resources available to educate individuals on steps to prevent identity theft, including setting up fraud alerts or credit freezes.

MIPS reminded consumers of their legal rights to obtain free credit reports annually from major reporting bureaus and to place fraud alerts or credit freezes on their files. These measures can help protect against unauthorized credit activities. Detailed instructions on accessing these services and contacting reporting agencies were included in the notification. The company also highlighted consumer rights under federal and state laws, such as obtaining police reports in cases of suspected identity theft.

The company encourages those who may have been affected to take proactive measures to secure their information. MIPS provided contact information for its dedicated assistance line and emphasized its commitment to transparency and support throughout the process. The incident highlights the importance of robust data security practices and reinforces the need for individuals to stay vigilant in protecting their personal and financial information.
