BAE Acquires Kirintec for Cyber Expansion

September 3, 2024

BAE Systems has acquired Kirintec, a UK-based company specializing in cyber and electromagnetic activities (CEMA). Kirintec is known for its expertise in counter-Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), counter-Uncrewed Air Systems (UAS), and electronic warfare products. Its battle-proven technology protects military platforms and personnel from cyber and electromagnetic attacks, and its open architecture allows integration across various military domains.

This acquisition strengthens BAE Systems’ capabilities in CEMA and multi-domain integration. By combining Kirintec’s technology with BAE’s existing offerings, the company will be better positioned to meet increasing customer demand for advanced cyber and electronic warfare solutions. Kirintec will be integrated into BAE’s Digital Intelligence business, which will help expand its product range and enhance its force protection and electronic warfare capabilities.

BAE Systems’ Group Managing Director of Digital Intelligence, Andrea Thompson, noted that the nature of modern warfare is evolving, with adversaries increasingly using cyber and electronic warfare tactics. The acquisition of Kirintec enables BAE to support military forces in securing electromagnetic spectrum dominance and mitigating operational risks. The complementary nature of both companies’ capabilities will provide a more robust defense against these evolving threats.

Kirintec’s 50-person workforce will continue to operate from its site in Herefordshire, where it will maintain its existing customer relationships. BAE Systems plans to invest more in product development and broaden the reach of Kirintec’s innovative solutions to more customers across the UK and allied nations. The deal aligns with BAE’s strategy of acquiring technology-rich companies that complement its portfolio and support the development of breakthrough technologies.
