Water For People Reports Data Incident

Water For People (WFP) has informed individuals of a recent incident that may have affected their personal information. While no evidence suggests any misuse of the data, the organization is providing notification out of an abundance of caution. As part of their proactive response, WFP is offering affected individuals complimentary enrollment in a 24-month credit monitoring service through Equifax. However, due to privacy laws, individuals must enroll themselves in the service to take advantage of this safeguard.

In addition to enrolling in the credit monitoring service, WFP strongly recommends that individuals remain vigilant in regularly reviewing their account statements and credit reports for any suspicious activity or unauthorized transactions. They urge affected individuals to promptly change their passwords if they detect any unusual activity and to notify their financial institutions or companies involved. WFP also advises reporting any suspicious incidents to local law enforcement or the State Attorney General for further assistance.

To further protect against identity theft and fraud, WFP encourages individuals to take advantage of their right to receive free annual credit reports from the three major credit bureaus: TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax. Upon reviewing these reports, individuals should look for any discrepancies or unfamiliar accounts and contact the credit bureaus if necessary. Additionally, WFP advises individuals to consider placing fraud alerts on their credit files to protect against identity theft, with options for both initial and extended alerts depending on the situation.

Despite the incident, Water For People has reassured individuals that the security of their personal information remains a priority. The organization is taking appropriate actions to address the situation and prevent similar occurrences in the future. For any further questions or concerns, individuals are encouraged to reach out to WFP directly using the provided contact information.
