The Cité Internationale de la Bande Dessinée et de l’Image, located in Angoulême, France, faced a ransomware cyber-attack last Sunday, which prompted immediate action from the institution’s team. The rapid response was crucial in limiting the potential damage to the integrity of their IT systems. Following the incident, the organization is taking comprehensive measures to assess the impact of the attack, protect sensitive data, and restore full operational capacity as quickly as possible.

Despite the cyber incident, the Cité has reassured its visitors that they can continue to enjoy the museum, bookshop, cinema, and library without any concerns. Temporary arrangements have been established to ensure that services remain as close to normal as possible during the recovery process. This approach highlights the institution’s commitment to maintaining a welcoming and functional environment for the public amid challenges.

The Cité has reported the attack to the relevant authorities, including the CNIL, the French data protection agency, and has engaged the National Agency for Information Systems Security (ANSSI) to assist with ongoing investigations. At this stage, the organization has not detected any data leaks, which is a positive sign for the safety of their information and the privacy of their visitors.

This incident emphasizes the growing threat of cyberattacks, particularly in cultural institutions. The Cité Internationale de la Bande Dessinée et de l’Image remains dedicated to reinforcing its cybersecurity measures and ensuring that its services remain secure and uninterrupted. As the situation evolves, the institution plans to keep the public informed about the restoration of normal services, demonstrating its resilience and commitment to visitor safety in Angoulême, France.
