Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity Hit With Data Breach

Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity recently confirmed a data security incident that occurred on or around February 3, 2024, involving unauthorized access to its network. Upon discovering the breach, the fraternity immediately launched a thorough investigation and enlisted external cybersecurity experts to assist with the process. After an extensive forensic review, it was determined that certain personal information, including Social Security numbers, financial and medical data, driver’s license numbers, and email credentials, may have been taken by an unauthorized individual. The breach was officially confirmed on November 21, 2024.

The affected data varied by individual, with the most sensitive information including Social Security numbers and financial account details. Pi Kappa Phi has been proactive in its response, notifying those potentially impacted by the breach. Personalized letters have been sent to individuals whose last known address is available, detailing the nature of the breach, the information potentially exposed, and actions they can take to protect themselves. As a precaution, the fraternity is offering complimentary identity monitoring and protection services to those whose Social Security numbers were involved.

Although Pi Kappa Phi has no evidence that any of the compromised data has been misused, they have strongly advised impacted individuals to take steps to safeguard their personal information. These recommendations include placing a fraud alert or security freeze on their credit files and regularly reviewing financial statements and credit reports for signs of suspicious activity. The fraternity has also urged individuals to report any unusual findings to the appropriate authorities to minimize the risk of identity theft or fraud.

Pi Kappa Phi remains fully committed to safeguarding its members’ personal information and has taken additional steps to strengthen its internal security measures. The organization continues to evaluate and improve its practices and controls to prevent future incidents. For further assistance, individuals affected by the breach can contact a dedicated response line available Monday through Friday.
