Fabriano Municipality Hit by Ransomware

The Municipality of Fabriano, located in the province of Ancona, Italy, has recently been targeted by a ransomware attack that has significantly disrupted its operations. According to a note published on the municipal website, the attack has affected the municipality’s servers, leading to potential disruptions for users accessing the institutional site and various municipal IT services. The attack has hindered access to digitized documents, impacting the daily functions of the municipality.

In response to the incident, the Postal Police have been engaged to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the extent and nature of the damage. The municipality is working closely with the authorities to restore compromised functionalities and secure the affected systems. Updates on the situation are being provided through the municipal website and social media platforms, keeping residents informed of any changes or developments.

Mayor Daniela Ghergo, who has been in office since June 2022, has acknowledged the severity of the attack and emphasized that technicians are currently working to assess and quantify the damage. Despite the disruptions caused by the attack, the municipality remains operational, with employees continuing to work their regular hours. The situation is being closely monitored, and the public will be kept informed as more information becomes available.

The ransomware attack on Fabriano’s municipal servers highlights the growing threat of cyberattacks on local government systems. As the investigation progresses, the municipality is focused on implementing necessary security measures to prevent future incidents and ensure the continued functionality of its services. The commitment to transparency and regular communication underscores the municipality’s dedication to managing the crisis effectively.
