Delhi Police Bust Major Cyber Fraud Ring

The Special Cell of Delhi Police has successfully dismantled a cyber fraud ring, arresting seven individuals, including a bank employee. The operation was triggered by a complaint from a victim who lost Rs 91 lakh to the criminals. These perpetrators posed as investigating officers and used fake government email IDs to request the unfreezing of bank accounts, deceiving the victim into transferring large sums of money.

The fraud was executed through a sophisticated scheme involving a WhatsApp group where the criminals provided false stock trading recommendations. They persuaded the victim to open an account on a fraudulent website, www.yotemog.com, and transfer Rs 91 lakh to 19 different accounts. This massive financial transfer was aimed at concealing the illegal activities and making tracking more difficult.

Upon discovering the scam, the police took immediate action by freezing the beneficiary accounts. One of the key accounts, held under the name Gaurav Trading at SBI, had a substantial balance of Rs 46 lakh. Further investigation revealed that the fraudsters had sent a forged email requesting the unfreezing of this account, which led to the tracing of the email to Proton Mail.

Through meticulous digital forensics and surveillance, the police tracked down the suspects. A raid resulted in the arrest of two main suspects, Ajay and Mohit, who then assisted in apprehending five more individuals involved in the scheme. This operation highlights the effectiveness of coordinated efforts in tackling cybercrime and protecting financial assets from fraudulent activities.
