Ameriprise Financial Client Data Incident

August 20, 2024

in Incidents

Ameriprise Financial recently informed clients of an incident involving the unauthorized disclosure of personal information. On August 12, 2024, the company discovered that a document containing sensitive client details was mistakenly sent to the wrong individual by an advisor’s office. Although the unintended recipient has since shredded the document, Ameriprise felt it necessary to notify affected clients due to the sensitive nature of the information involved.

The information at risk includes the clients’ names, Social Security numbers, addresses, and account numbers. In response to this incident, Ameriprise has implemented measures to enhance account security, such as instructing service associates to exercise greater caution when verifying callers and confirming signatures on written account requests. The company is committed to protecting its clients and preventing any unauthorized access to their accounts.

As a precautionary measure, Ameriprise Financial is offering affected clients a complimentary two-year enrollment in an independent credit monitoring program managed by Equifax, one of the leading national credit reporting agencies. The Equifax Complete™ Premier service provides clients with an early warning system that alerts them to any changes in their credit files, helping them to monitor their accounts for potential misuse of their personal information.

In addition to providing credit monitoring services, Ameriprise has advised clients on steps they can take to protect themselves further. These recommendations include registering a fraud alert or security freeze with major credit bureaus, closely reviewing account statements for any unauthorized activity, and being vigilant when receiving calls from individuals claiming to represent Ameriprise. The company has emphasized its commitment to safeguarding client privacy and has provided contact information for further inquiries and assistance regarding the incident.
