M&R Printing Equipment, Inc., based in Illinois, reported a data breach to the Attorney General of New Hampshire following a ransomware attack in June 2024. The company discovered the breach on June 6, 2024, and immediately launched an investigation to assess the nature and scope of the incident. M&R, a leading manufacturer of printing equipment, worked to determine whether sensitive personal identifiable information had been accessed by an unauthorized actor. By July 8, 2024, the company had completed its review of the compromised data.

The personal information potentially exposed during the breach was not specified in the company’s public statements. However, M&R’s notification to state officials mentioned that sensitive data such as names, Social Security numbers, government identification numbers, and financial account details could have been compromised. In accordance with state guidelines, this type of personal information typically includes credit card numbers, account numbers, and any required security codes or access passwords that could permit unauthorized access to financial accounts.

On August 16, 2024, M&R began sending formal breach notifications to individuals affected by the incident, including residents of New Hampshire. These letters provided recipients with details on the specific types of personal information that may have been exposed. Additionally, M&R offered complimentary credit monitoring services to help individuals protect their identities and guard against potential misuse of their data.

M&R Printing Equipment, founded in 1985, is a major player in the printing industry, producing a wide range of digital and textile printing systems. With headquarters in Roselle, Illinois, and locations in New York, Poland, and China, the company employs over 500 people. Despite the breach, M&R continues its efforts to ensure the security of its data systems and protect its clients and employees from future incidents.
