Maple City Savings Bank, based in Hornell, New York, reported a data breach to the Maine Attorney General that may have compromised sensitive personal information. The breach occurred between April 12 and April 23, 2024, when an unauthorized actor accessed the bank’s systems, potentially affecting data such as names, Social Security numbers, and financial account numbers. Following the detection of suspicious activity, Maple City launched an investigation to assess the scope of the breach and identify the individuals whose information was impacted.

On August 7, 2024, Maple City completed its review of the compromised data, determining the specific individuals and information affected. The bank subsequently began sending data breach notification letters to the impacted individuals on August 16, 2024. In response to the breach, Maple City offered those affected 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services to help mitigate the potential risk of identity theft.

Maple City has taken additional steps to secure its systems and prevent future incidents. The bank has implemented measures to strengthen its cybersecurity practices and continues to review its processes to protect customers’ personal information. Maple City is also providing details to the affected individuals regarding the type of information exposed and offering assistance in monitoring for any unauthorized activity.

Founded in 1906, Maple City Savings Bank is a locally owned financial institution that offers a wide range of products and services to both businesses and individuals. In addition to banking services, the bank provides investment and insurance products, including retirement accounts, life insurance, and Medicare plans, with its headquarters in Hornell and two additional locations in New York.
