Augusta University has received approval from the University System of Georgia Board of Regents to introduce a groundbreaking PhD program in Intelligence, Defense, and Cybersecurity Policy, making it the first of its kind in the nation. This program will be offered through Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and will include comprehensive coursework designed to equip students with essential knowledge in security studies. The curriculum will encompass required credit hours in research methods, intelligence studies, strategic cybersecurity, and traditional security studies, providing students with a well-rounded understanding of the various dimensions of security in a national and international context.

Kim Davies, the dean of Pamplin College, highlighted the importance of this new program, explaining that it logically extends the existing Master of Arts in Intelligence and Security Studies program. He praised Dr. Craig Albert and the faculty involved in developing the PhD program for their dedication in creating a rigorous and innovative curriculum. The dean emphasized that the program aims to foster a strong, broad-based understanding of security studies, particularly in relation to the national security of the United States and its international standing.

This initiative comes at a crucial time when the demand for expertise in intelligence, defense, and cybersecurity is growing significantly. The increasing complexity of global security challenges necessitates advanced education and research in these fields. By offering this unique PhD program, Augusta University is positioned to contribute to the development of skilled professionals who can navigate the intricacies of national defense and cybersecurity, addressing both current and emerging threats.

Additionally, the University has announced an opening for a full-time Assistant Professor to teach courses within the new PhD program. This hiring will support the program’s goals and ensure that students receive high-quality education from experienced faculty members. With the launch of this program, Augusta University is not only enhancing its academic offerings but also playing a vital role in addressing the evolving landscape of national security and cybersecurity challenges.
