On August 13, 2024, Harvey-Cleary Builders informed the Attorney General of Texas about a data breach that potentially compromised sensitive personal identifiable information. The company disclosed that an unauthorized third party might have accessed confidential data within its systems. As of August 14, 2024, specific details regarding the breach, including the exact circumstances and extent of the data accessed, have not been publicly released. However, it has been indicated that the compromised information may include names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, government-issued ID numbers such as passports or state ID cards, and financial details like account numbers or credit card information.

In light of the breach, Harvey-Cleary Builders has begun mailing notification letters to individuals whose data may have been exposed. This proactive approach is part of the company’s efforts to ensure transparency and provide guidance to affected parties regarding potential risks associated with the breach. The notification letters typically contain information about the nature of the incident, what data was compromised, and steps individuals can take to protect themselves from identity theft or fraud. This response reflects the company’s commitment to addressing the situation responsibly and keeping its clients informed.

Harvey-Cleary Builders, established in 1957, is a full-service general construction contractor based in Houston, Texas. The firm specializes in a wide array of construction services, including general contracting, preconstruction, design-build, and construction management. It serves various markets, including commercial, education, healthcare, and government, demonstrating its versatility and extensive experience in the construction industry. With a workforce of over 500 employees and multiple locations across Texas, Colorado, and Washington D.C., the company is well-positioned to handle diverse construction projects on a national scale.

The data breach raises significant concerns about the security of personal information in today’s digital landscape. As companies like Harvey-Cleary Builders continue to manage sensitive data, the need for robust cybersecurity measures becomes increasingly critical. This incident serves as a reminder for organizations to regularly evaluate and enhance their security protocols to protect against unauthorized access. It also highlights the importance of notifying affected individuals promptly and providing them with resources to mitigate potential risks associated with identity theft and fraud.
