Meditrina, Inc. recently informed individuals about a data security incident that may have impacted their personal information. The company emphasized its commitment to privacy and security, urging affected individuals to read the notification carefully for details about the incident and protective measures. Under Massachusetts law, victims have the right to obtain police reports related to the incident and to file a report if they suspect identity theft. The notice also explains that consumers can place a security freeze on their credit reports, which would prevent any unauthorized access but might delay approvals for new loans or credit.

The investigation into the incident revealed that sensitive personal information, including names, Social Security numbers, and medical records, may have been accessed by unauthorized individuals. Meditrina is providing detailed guidance on the process of placing a security freeze, which involves submitting a written request to the three major consumer reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. Each agency has specific requirements for verifying identity and processing requests to ensure the safety of personal information.

In response to the potential breach, Meditrina has initiated a review to determine the specific information that may have been compromised and to identify affected individuals. As part of their mitigation efforts, the company has started sending out breach notification letters to those impacted, outlining the type of sensitive information that may have been exposed. They are also offering complimentary identity monitoring services for 24 months through IDX, a specialist in data breach recovery services.

Although Meditrina has no evidence of misuse of the affected information, the company advises individuals to remain vigilant against fraud or identity theft. They encourage affected persons to monitor their financial statements and credit reports for any unauthorized activity. Meditrina’s offer of identity protection services includes credit monitoring, a reimbursement policy for identity fraud losses, and assistance with identity theft recovery. Individuals are urged to enroll in these services by a specified deadline to ensure ongoing protection.
