Monte Nido, a national mental health provider based in Florida, recently reported a significant data breach to the Attorney General of California. This breach involves the potential exposure of sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information. The organization discovered suspicious activity within its computer network on September 22, 2023, prompting an immediate investigation to ascertain the nature and scope of the incident. The investigation revealed that unauthorized access may have occurred between September 16 and September 22, 2023, allowing an unidentified actor to view and potentially acquire sensitive information stored in Monte Nido’s systems.

During the investigation, Monte Nido identified that various types of sensitive personal information might have been compromised. The impacted information includes names, Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth, and contact details such as phone numbers and email addresses. In addition, government-issued identification numbers, financial data including bank account and credit card information, and comprehensive medical records were also at risk. Recognizing the serious implications of this data breach, Monte Nido has taken steps to notify affected individuals about the potential exposure of their information.

In response to the incident, Monte Nido began mailing data breach notification letters to individuals whose data may have been compromised. These letters provide details on the specific types of sensitive information that might have been accessed and outline the organization’s commitment to protecting patient privacy. Moreover, Monte Nido is offering complimentary credit monitoring services to the affected individuals to help mitigate potential risks associated with identity theft or fraud as a result of the breach.

Founded in 1996, Monte Nido specializes in treating eating disorders and operates 50 programs across 28 states under various names. The organization employs over 1,000 individuals and is dedicated to improving care through ongoing research into treatment outcomes. As Monte Nido continues to address the fallout from this incident, it remains focused on safeguarding patient data and enhancing its security measures to prevent future breaches.
