Group-IB, a prominent cybersecurity technology firm, has partnered with CyberSecurity Malaysia, a national agency under the Ministry of Digital Malaysia, to enhance the country’s cyber resilience. The agreement, formalized on August 6, 2024, in Kuala Lumpur, aims to establish a comprehensive framework that will protect Malaysia’s national interests and critical IT infrastructure. The collaboration focuses on key initiatives such as information sharing on cyber threats, technical support for vulnerability assessments, and training programs aimed at raising cybersecurity awareness.

The multifaceted framework outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) includes various strategic initiatives to fortify Malaysia’s cybersecurity landscape. It encompasses robust information exchange on threat intelligence and incident reports, as well as technical assistance in digital forensics. Additionally, the partnership emphasizes capacity-building efforts through training for both businesses and the public on best practices in cybersecurity. The aim is to create a more resilient digital environment by equipping organizations with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to cyber incidents effectively.

Another significant aspect of the partnership is the provision of access to Group-IB’s Digital Crime Resistance Centers (DCRCs). This access will facilitate rapid analysis and mitigation of regional cyber threats, enhance intelligence sharing, and promote joint operations against cybercrime in Malaysia. The collaboration also aims to target small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by offering them essential cybersecurity services. These initiatives are designed to create a comprehensive support system that enables businesses to protect themselves against evolving cyber threats.

Leaders from both organizations expressed their enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting its potential to significantly improve Malaysia’s cybersecurity defenses. Dmitry Volkov, CEO of Group-IB, emphasized the importance of the partnership in the context of Malaysia’s transition to a fully digital economy. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Haji Amirudin bin Abdul Wahab, CEO of CyberSecurity Malaysia, echoed this sentiment, stating that the collaboration aims to leverage collective expertise for better compliance with local laws and enhance confidentiality and data protection. The partnership, particularly through initiatives like “InsureGuard,” is poised to bolster cybersecurity measures across various sectors in Malaysia.
