Phoenix Footwear Group Suffers Breach

Phoenix Footwear Group based in California recently experienced a data breach that began with suspicious activity on its network on August 26, 2024. Upon detecting the irregularities, the company immediately took action to secure its systems and began a thorough investigation. The investigation revealed that certain files had been accessed and potentially acquired by unauthorized individuals. Phoenix then conducted a detailed review of the affected data to determine what specific information had been exposed and which individuals were impacted. The breach was ultimately confirmed to involve personal data, including names and Social Security numbers.

On October 7, 2024, Phoenix completed its review and identified the affected individuals, including residents from both Maine and California. The company promptly worked to locate address information for those affected, completing this process by October 21, 2024. Written notices regarding the breach were sent to approximately 15 residents in Maine, and additional notifications were issued to impacted individuals in California on November 6, 2024.

In response to the breach, Phoenix has implemented several measures to strengthen its cybersecurity posture. The company is providing free credit monitoring services for 12 months through IDX to individuals whose personal information was compromised. In addition to monitoring services, Phoenix is offering guidance on steps individuals can take to protect themselves against identity theft, including placing fraud alerts and security freezes on their credit files, and encouraging them to remain vigilant in reviewing account statements and credit reports.

Phoenix has also notified federal law enforcement authorities about the incident. The company continues to assess its security policies and is exploring new cybersecurity tools to prevent future breaches. As part of its ongoing commitment to safeguard personal data, Phoenix is ensuring that those impacted by the breach are fully informed about how to minimize the risk of identity theft and fraud.
