Local 1, a labor union representing electrical workers in Missouri, has recently reported a data breach to the Attorney General of Maine. The organization discovered that unauthorized individuals accessed its computer systems, prompting Local 1 to launch an immediate investigation to assess the situation. The breach was identified during a review of the union’s computer network, which revealed suspicious activity that could potentially compromise the sensitive personal identifiable information of its members.

Following a thorough investigation, Local 1 determined that sensitive personal information may have been accessed and taken by unauthorized parties between March 31, 2024, and April 5, 2024. The union worked diligently to identify the specific data that had been affected, conducting a comprehensive review that was completed by July 3, 2024. Although the exact details of the compromised data have not been fully disclosed, Local 1 indicated that the type of information potentially exposed includes names and Social Security numbers of its members.

On August 5, 2024, Local 1 began mailing data breach notification letters to those impacted by the incident. In these notifications, the union provided affected individuals with details about the types of sensitive information that were compromised. Additionally, Local 1 offered 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services to help mitigate any potential risks associated with the breach. This proactive approach is intended to support its members during this challenging time and to ensure that they are informed of the situation.

Local 1 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, founded in 1891, is dedicated to advocating for the rights and welfare of its members. The union represents over 7,400 active members and retirees working in diverse fields such as construction, telecommunications, manufacturing, and government. Beyond collective bargaining for wages and benefits, Local 1 also emphasizes training and education programs to enhance the skills and safety of electricians and telecommunications technicians in the industry. With its headquarters in Saint Louis, Missouri, Local 1 maintains additional offices throughout the state to better serve its membership.
